Before Flash Fic Daily was a website, it was a habit. I, like many writers, struggle to get going. The pen is too heavy, the task too big. The blank page feels like an insurmountable problem.

I realised one day that all that pressure was self imposed. So I took it all away. I knew that once I started, I was fine… I just needed a way to start.

Armed with Wikipedia’s random page function, and a small webtool I built to extract interesting hooks and sentences, I challenged myself to write a piece of flash fiction every day. Not to publish. Not to stew over. Not to endlessly rework. Just to start, to finish, and to forget about.

It became an inalienable part of my routine. The best possible start to my writing sessions. Flash Fic Daily is my attempt to share that tool with the world.

We publish one prompt everyday. If you choose to submit your piece, you’ll have a chance to become our featured story for the following week. If you’re selected, your story and a short bio (and a website or social link if you have one) will be emailed to our mailing list.
